Composer’s Notes

Eko’s first major launch of a choice-driven TV show was written up by TechCrunch and Polygon.

The showrunners set out to demonstrate that interactive shows can be much more than novelty. As a comedy, the viewers choose what essentially are different jokes, making it fun to replay multiple times.

Much of the music consisted of bumpers and what we called “decision points”, where the music underscores the time given to viewers to consider options for the heroine Jill (“a 20-something hot mess”).

We ended up with an 80s musical aesthetic, which was initially inspired by an episode set in a vintage clothing shop. The era’s Roland 808 drum machine tom-toms and squishy bass sounds combine lightness and punch, which sets up the heroine’s irreverent attitude to her increasingly horrendous social situations.

Make it stand out.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
